Hand Drawn Mandala

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Mandalas open up artwork as an outlet for focus and relaxation while offering an opportunity to explore colors relations, symmetry, pattern, and line. Students will create their own mandala designs by using line and pattern repetitively. Once their mandala is drawn, they will bring it to life using colored pencil. Instructors will discuss color relationships as well as line and pattern.

INNOVATION COMPONENTS:

Mandalas open up artwork as an outlet for focus and relaxation while offering an opportunity to explore colors relations, symmetry, pattern, and line. Students will create their own mandala designs by using line and pattern repetitively. Once their mandala is drawn, they will bring it to life using colored pencil. Instructors will discuss color relationships as well as line and pattern. This project provides an opportunity for students to learn the therapeutic values of artmaking. Creating a symmetrical mandala requires students to analyze the shapes and lines being used and then to make decisions about applying color.

CAREER COMPONENT:

Art Therapists use art to help people learn ways to express their emotions and work through difficult experiences. By teaching people to use art to help them make sense of their feelings they make it easier for people to talk about what they are going through and get better.
